For U.S. Military Members Buying New & Used Cars in Germany


1. Who is eligible to buy a vehicle through Military AutoSource?

Active Duty U.S. Military, DoD civilians, contractors with SOFA status, and eligible family members stationed in Germany can purchase vehicles tax-free through the MAS program.


2. Are your vehicles US-Spec or Euro-Spec?

All vehicles we sell are US SPEC, designed for U.S. service members stationed overseas. They meet U.S. safety standards, lighting regulations, and are fully compatible with U.S. registration upon return to the States.


3. Do you offer both new and used cars?

Yes.

  • New: Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda & Nissan (factory-ordered or in-stock).

  • Used: A large variety from all manufacturers, including Jeep, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Honda, etc.


4. Are your vehicles tax-free?

Yes. All qualifying U.S. Military personnel receive tax-free pricing, saving thousands compared to local German dealers.


5. Where are you located and who do you serve?

We serve customers across the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) including:

  • Ramstein

  • Kaiserslautern

  • Landstuhl

  • Baumholder

  • Sembach

  • Vogelweh

  • Surrounding areas within a 30km radius

Vehicles can be viewed or delivered locally depending on the listing.


6. Do you offer financing for U.S. Military members?

Yes. We work closely with banks such as Service Credit Union, Navy Federal etc and also partner with M&T bank (stateside) to offer customers:

  • Competitive rates

  • $0 down payment

  • Payment protection plans

  • Approvals even with limited or no credit history


7. Can I trade in my current vehicle?

Yes. Our used inventory now comes almost entirely from local trade-ins from U.S. service members. We do not ship used cars over from the States. By sourcing vehicles locally within the KMC, we can personally inspect, verify, and approve every car — ensuring higher quality and far better condition than sight-unseen imports. Trade-ins are accepted depending on condition, age, and US-spec status. We can evaluate trade-ins even if they were purchased outside MAS.


8. How does buying a vehicle overseas through MAS work?

  1. Choose a new or used vehicle

  2. Review pricing, tax-free eligibility & financing

  3. Retrieve a VAT form  or Customs forms (AE550s)

  4. Register your vehicle on base

  5. Clear customs and collect your vehicle

  6. Optional shipment back to the U.S. when you PCS – subject to vehicle

9. Is insurance required to register my vehicle in Germany?

Yes. We can assist you with referrals to trusted U.S. insurance providers that work with US-spec vehicles overseas.


10. Do you offer warranties on used cars?

Yes, we offer a 1-Year Worldwide warranty as standard on all used vehicles which is extendable up to three years. As well as being worldwide, it’s bumper to bumper and has lots of added features such as breakdown recovery costs, rental car coverage, travel expenses and lodging costs should anything happen whilst you were away from home 


11. How long does vehicle delivery take?

Used cars are typically delivered within 24-48 hours however we can always work to have a vehicle delivered faster. While it’s common to drive the vehicle away same-day in the states, no car dealer in Germany is able to register a vehicle in house meaning the customer must visit vehicle registration on base.

12. Can I reserve a vehicle before I arrive in Germany?

Yes — remote reservations are available for inbound personnel. Vehicles can be held with a deposit.
